Telangana police detain two more armoury officials linked to army weapons theft

Police in Telangana have taken into custody two additional armoury in-charges suspected of aiding a retired havildar in stealing weapons from the Indian Army’s Madras Regiment depot.

Telangana police announced the detention of two further armoury in-charges, Vinod and Sheshu, for their alleged role in a weapons heist carried out by retired army havildar Upputholla Mallesh. The theft occurred on August 31 at the Madras Regiment’s armoury in Secunderabad, where Mallesh reportedly stole several AK-203 rifles, an INSAS rifle, pistols and large quantities of ammunition. After his arrest on September 11, investigators learned that the two armoury officials helped transport the cache to Mallesh’s house in Kowkoor village, Yapral mandal, and later to his native village in Nagarkurnool.

Police have recovered the weapons and ammunition from both locations, as well as additional rounds from a second hideout. Ongoing inquiries are focusing on financial transactions between Mallesh and the detained officials, with formal arrests pending court proceedings.
