Telefónica restructures into three core units with decision-making centralized in Spain

Telefónica will reorganise its business into three main divisions—consumer, business, and technology & systems—shifting strategic control to Spain.

Telefónica is set to simplify its organisational chart by consolidating its roughly twenty national units into three overarching segments—consumer, business, and technology & systems—under the Transform & Grow strategy unveiled by President Marc Murtra. The overhaul will centralise strategic decision-making in Spain, with each segment led by a senior executive reporting to CEO Emilio Gayo and President Murtra. Óscar Candiles, current chief revenue officer of Telefónica España, is slated to oversee the consumer area; Borja Ochoa will take charge of the business segment covering large clients and public administrations; and Sergio Sánchez, head of operations, networks and IT for Telefónica España, is likely to lead technology and systems. The board is scheduled to approve the initial actions on Wednesday, and the move will require subsidiaries, especially in the United Kingdom and Germany, to follow the new directives, while operations in Brazil and Venezuela will continue under existing arrangements.
