Telluride Film Festival Announces Lineup Featuring Oscar Contenders and Star Tributes

Telluride’s 53rd edition kicks off on Friday, presenting a lineup that positions the festival as a launchpad for the Oscar race. World premieres include Elsinore starring Andrew Scott, Jesse Eisenberg’s musical The Debut with Julianne Moore, and Mike Leigh’s potential swan-song Tender Loving Care. Additional titles arrive from Venice, Sundance, Berlin and Cannes, featuring works by Martin McDonagh, Danny Boyle and Werner Herzog.

Actress Rebecca Hall serves as guest director, and career tributes will honor John Malkovich, Sandra Hüller and Andrew Haigh, whose new film A Long Winter also debuts. Léa Seydoux headlines three films, and two Russian exile directors, Andrey Zvyagintsev and Julia Loktev, are slated to attend. Organizer Julie Huntsinger noted the recent repairs to the Palm Theatre and the festival’s continued focus on premiere screenings.
