Tempe school surveillance officer arrested on seven voyeurism counts after accessing changing-room camera
A Tempe Union High School District surveillance employee was detained and charged with seven voyeurism offenses for illegally viewing and downloading footage of female students in a temporary changing area.
Police arrested Antony Nikai Cruz, a surveillance officer for the Tempe Union High School District, after an internal audit revealed he had accessed and exported video from a camera covering a temporary female changing area at Corona del Sol High School. The audit on 21 August showed unusual log activity tied to Cruz’s account, leading the district’s security supervisor to alert the Tempe Police Department, which opened a criminal probe.
Cruz was booked on 22 August, admitted to viewing the footage but denied distributing it, and was released on a $100,000 bond. District Superintendent Stacia Wilson notified parents that, to date, the misuse seems confined to one camera and that detectives are working to identify any affected students. School and district crisis teams will remain on campus to offer counseling, while officials say they will continue reviewing security and IT protocols. The case proceeds through the Maricopa County court system, where each voyeurism count carries a potential sentence of six months to 2.5 years in prison.
