Temporary barrier installed at Roque Bluffs boat ramp after family deaths
A provisional gate has been set up at the boat ramp in Roque Bluffs where a grandmother and her two grandchildren were found dead, and officials plan a permanent barrier soon.
Authorities recovered the submerged vehicle of Sharon Bukulmez, 61, along with her grandchildren Kinsley Grubb, 5, and Sawyer Grubb, 3, from Pond Cove early Sunday morning. The family had been expected in Machias after leaving a wedding in Jonesboro but never arrived. Bar Harbor police used Bukulmez’s cellphone data to pinpoint the boat ramp at the terminus of Schoppee Point Road in Roque Bluffs, where the three bodies were later retrieved.
Maine State Police consider the fatalities non-suspicious. Following a fatal crash at the same ramp in 2013, the town had posted warning signs, and now a temporary barrier has been placed while a permanent gate is scheduled for completion by the end of the week.
