Ten climbers and staff missing after avalanche on Himlung Himal in Nepal
An avalanche on the 7,126-metre Himlung Himal in Manang’s Nar Phu area left ten climbers and support workers unaccounted for.
An avalanche descended on Himlung Himal, a 7,126-metre mountain in the Nar Phu area of Manang district, causing ten people to go missing. The missing include two employees of Imagine Nepal Pvt Ltd and eight associated with Himalayan Holidays Nepal. Rishi Bhandari, general secretary of the Expedition Operators Association Nepal, verified the event on Sunday.
Ram Krishna Lamichhane, director general of the Department of Tourism, reported that officials are closely monitoring the situation, collecting further information, and organizing search and rescue operations. The disaster occurs as the region continues to experience persistent rain and snowfall, complicating rescue attempts. No casualties have been confirmed at this stage, but the situation remains critical for the affected teams.
