Tenant demand for affordable rentals spikes in Athens, Thessaloniki and islands
Spitogatos data show a sharp rise in rental searches for low-priced homes, especially in northern Athens suburbs and outside major city centres.
According to recent figures released by Spitogatos, Greek renters are facing growing difficulty finding affordable housing as rental prices have surged in recent years. The platform highlights that apartments priced at 600 euros or less attract the most attention, with the northern suburbs of Athens recording about 282 searches per available unit and roughly 21 leads per listing. By contrast, demand for more expensive homes is considerably lower, with the pressure ratio falling to around 42 times less.
In the city centre, the search-to-listing ratio for cheap rentals is about 21, while in the eastern and western suburbs it stands at 130 and 88 respectively. Thessaloniki’s peripheral districts show similar trends, with the rest of the regional unit seeing 123 searches per property and nearly six leads per listing. Among the islands, the Dodecanese lead with the highest search volume for low-cost rentals, followed by Zakynthos, Rhodes and Paros.
