Terengganu royal family member sues two banks over missing savings
A member of the Terengganu royal family has filed a lawsuit against two banks to recover his missing savings after a series of unauthorised transactions.
Tengku Ismail Tengku Ibrahim, a 65-year-old member of the Terengganu royal family, filed legal proceedings against two banks to reclaim his savings, which he says vanished after a series of unauthorised withdrawals. He noticed the loss when checking his accounts in early January, finding only minimal balances remaining. The withdrawals, he claims, occurred in small increments from September through December of the prior year.
Dissatisfied with the explanations offered by bank personnel, he retained counsel, who sent formal letters to the banks before filing writs of summons on October 8. Case management hearings are scheduled for October 14 and October 19, while police have reportedly arrested individuals linked to the recipient accounts. His legal team seeks both the return of the funds and compensation for the distress caused.
Why it matters
The case highlights potential banking vulnerabilities and raises concerns about the protection of high-profile individuals' assets.
