Teresa Kok awarded RM250,000 after winning defamation case against Akmal

Teresa Kok secured a High Court victory over Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh, receiving RM250,000 in damages and an injunction to stop further defamatory remarks.

The High Court in Melaka ruled in favour of DAP veteran Teresa Kok, granting her RM250,000 in general and aggravated damages after she sued Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh for defamation. Judge Isa Aziz Ibrahim also issued an injunction preventing Akmal from making additional defamatory statements and ordered the removal of the offending posts from social media. Kok’s lawyer, Datuk Sankara Nair, said Akmal must also pay RM50,000 in legal costs.

Why it matters
