Tesla announced a safety recall affecting roughly 20,000 Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers because their low-beam headlights may surpass the maximum output permitted under federal regulations. The vehicles in question span Model 3 model years 2017-2023 and Model Y model years 2020-2023. Authorities warn that the overly bright beams could diminish visibility for both the driver and oncoming motorists, potentially increasing the likelihood of collisions.
Tesla does not intend to notify owners until around mid-September, citing ongoing development of a remedy, and has provided a dedicated phone line for inquiries. The recall follows earlier NHTSA actions involving rear-camera defects, brake-rotor concerns, and other compliance lapses. Recent regulatory scrutiny also includes a separate investigation of 1.2 million Teslas for possible suspension failures and numerous Autopilot-related incidents. The company has sold about 9.2 million vehicles worldwide as of April.
