Texas brothers fatally shot while reversing car, neighbor arrested on murder charge

In a San Antonio neighborhood, Dravyn Quiroz, 20, and his younger brother Maliki Perales, 11, were shot dead after Quiroz was backing his car out of the driveway. Witnesses reported that Daniel Antonio Perez, 40, started shooting when one of the brothers noticed a man watching them, even though the families had no known conflicts. The younger brother was taken to a nearby Dollar General before being rushed to a hospital, where he died shortly after; Quiroz succumbed roughly twelve hours later.

Perez attempted to escape but was apprehended within ten minutes and has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault, offenses that could carry the death penalty in Texas. Sheriff Javier Salazar described Perez as a "ticking time bomb" who suffers from depression and hallucinations, and investigators recovered his firearm from a drainage culvert. A community vigil was held, and the family mourned the loss of the two boys.
