Texas chiropractor identified among dead after Grand Canyon flash flood, two companions still missing

Heavy rain on Saturday triggered a flash flood in the Grand Canyon’s South Rim area, endangering a hiking party that included Texas chiropractor John Giusti. Giusti, 46, was discovered dead on Sunday, marking the first confirmed loss from the disaster. His family described him as a father of three, an avid runner, car enthusiast and comic-book fan.

Two of his companions, Timothy Smith and Brent Rosenkranz, have not been located and are still considered missing. In response to the flooding, park authorities evacuated roughly 50 people by helicopter on Saturday. The incident highlights the sudden danger posed by severe weather in remote national-park settings. Rescue efforts continue as officials search for the remaining missing hikers.
