Texas couple sues Popeyes for $1.5 million after finding foreign object in chicken
Two Texas residents have filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against Popeyes and its parent company, alleging they discovered a latex-like item in a fried chicken piece.
In a lawsuit filed on August 3 in Harris County, Texas, Justin Howard and Danielle McKinnon allege that a piece of fried chicken from Popeyes contained a latex object resembling a condom, leading to physical nausea and emotional upset. The complaint accuses Popeyes and its owner, Restaurant Brands International, of seven negligence violations and breaches of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act, seeking $1.5 million in damages.
The incident occurred around July 25 at the Popeyes location on South Sam Houston Parkway West, after which the couple returned to the restaurant and, after persistent effort, received a refund. Popeyes said video review points to a restaurant glove that may have fallen into the batter, and it offered an apology and refund. The filing also mentions fears of exposure to infectious or hazardous substances, and the plaintiffs assert ongoing physical, mental, and emotional harm.
