Texas receives $7.5 billion DHS grant to reimburse border security costs
Governor Greg Abbott announced a $7.5 billion Department of Homeland Security grant that will reimburse Texas for expenses incurred during the Biden border crisis.
Earlier this month Governor Greg Abbott secured a $7.5 billion grant from the Department of Homeland Security to reimburse Texas for border-security costs tied to the Biden Border Crisis. Abbott reported a conversation with Secretary Mullin, who confirmed the transfer, and thanked President Trump for supporting the action. The funds relate to Operation Lone Star, under which thousands of Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and National Guard soldiers were sent to the Texas-Mexico border, where roughly two-thirds of illegal crossings occurred.
Comptroller Don Huffines described the reimbursement as a major step toward “making Texas whole” after the state covered billions itself. He added that the grant, together with rising sales-tax revenue, could strengthen the legislature’s ability to deliver property-tax relief. Abbott also announced plans to seek an additional $3 billion from the Justice Department for further border-security expenditures.
