Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico says all faiths point to the same truth
Democratic candidate James Talarico told a resurfaced video that Islam, Christianity and other religions are equal routes to divine truth, rejecting the idea that Jesus is the sole path.
James Talarico, running as a Democrat for the Texas Senate, appeared in a newly surfaced video where he argued that Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, the Great Spirit and other traditions are equivalent pathways to a shared divine truth, dismissing the claim that Jesus alone provides salvation. He likened world religions to a circle surrounding a central mystery, each using different names such as God, Yahweh, Allah, Nirvana or the Great Spirit.
The remarks echo his 2021 Texas House invocation that invoked the Torah, Quran, Gita, Dharma and the First Epistle of John. Talarico has previously sparked controversy by calling Christianity the most violent faith and asserting it has caused more harm to Islam than any other religion, as well as stating that the Bible does not address abortion. These statements have drawn criticism from religious groups and political opponents ahead of the election.
Why it matters
The candidate's religious views could influence voter perceptions and affect the Texas Senate race.
