Texas Senate hopeful's past remarks spark debate on capitalism and white supremacy

Ennis described Talarico as a proud capitalist who shares Texans’ concerns about racism, natural disasters and a billionaire-controlled economy, while the campaign later called the earlier remarks “cringey.”

The resurfaced comments ignited a panel on one outlet's program hosted by Abby Phillips, featuring Kmele Foster, who argued that capitalism is a free-trade system that has generated wealth, and Jemele Hill, who challenged that view without offering a definitive stance. Foster pressed Hill to explain any present-day connection between private property and white supremacist dynamics, and Leigh McGowan stepped in as the discussion stalled. The exchange highlighted the broader controversy over whether modern capitalism continues to reinforce racial inequities.
