Texas smugglers flee at 100 mph, then hijack driver at gunpoint
Two suspected human traffickers led a high-speed chase on Interstate 10 in Fabens, Texas, before abandoning their car and one of them allegedly robbed a civilian at gunpoint.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations released footage of a chase along Interstate 10 near Fabens, Texas, where two alleged human smugglers drove at more than 100 mph. A spike strip appears to have damaged the front-right tire, prompting the suspects to bail out and flee on foot. A Texas Department of Public Safety officer apprehended one of the men, while the other allegedly pointed a firearm at a civilian and commandeered the driver’s car.
Both individuals were later arrested and face charges of human smuggling and evading arrest. CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott praised the coordination among Border Patrol, AMO, HSI and Texas DPS. No details were provided about the number or nationality of the people being smuggled.
