Texas teen launches global free tutoring network for over 10,000 girls
High-school senior Claire Wang co-founded Future Female Scholars, which now provides free one-on-one tutoring to more than 10,000 underserved girls worldwide.
Claire Wang’s personal family story sparked the creation of Future Female Scholars, a nonprofit that links under-served girls with volunteer tutors. Together with Vivian Lu, she launched the program in ninth grade, and it has grown from a handful of tutors to a network of more than 2,000 vetted volunteers operating in over 70 nations. The organization now offers free, individualized tutoring to upwards of 10,000 girls and maintains an Instagram following of over 145,000, helping attract both students and tutors.
Partnerships with the Born This Way Foundation, Krispy Kreme and TrueLeap have broadened its reach. Wang balances her senior year coursework with 35-40 hours of monthly work overseeing tutor vetting, student-tutor matching, and digital communications. She plans to study chemistry in college while continuing to expand the platform, hoping eventually to collaborate with major international bodies such as the United Nations.
