Thai Meteorological Department issues five-day heavy rain warning across much of the country
The Thai Meteorological Department has warned of thundershowers, gusty winds, hail and heavy rain in several regions from October 9 to 13, with Bangkok especially at risk on October 10-11.
On October 8, the Thai Meteorological Department announced a five-day warning for heavy rain, thundershowers, gusty winds and hail affecting large parts of Thailand between October 9 and 13. The alert lists the lower northeast, east and south on the first day, expanding to include the lower north, central region (including Bangkok) and the east on October 10, with the central and southern areas remaining at risk through October 11.
The southern provinces continue to face isolated heavy rain for the entire period. Meteorologists expect a cold air mass from China to push the monsoon trough southward, intensifying rainfall in central, eastern and southern Thailand. They warn of flash floods, rapid runoff on foothill slopes, and sea waves exceeding two metres, urging people to stay away from open areas, large trees and unstable billboards, and to travel with caution. Mariners are also told to monitor routes and avoid thundershowers in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
