Thailand decries chaotic housing and transport at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

Thailand has joined other nations in condemning the organisation of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, describing the housing and transport arrangements as chaotic. Chalitrat Chandrubeksa, deputy secretary general of the Thai National Olympic Committee, highlighted a shortfall of beds on the Costa Serena cruise ship, where 201 were needed but only 170 were provided, leading to athletes being moved repeatedly. More than 4,000 people are housed on the ship and another 2,000 in makeshift wooden container "villas," while some team staff are lodged over an hour and a half away from Nagoya.

Competitors have also faced prolonged airport waits, delayed or missing shuttle buses, and complaints about food quality. The Asian Games organising committee says it has increased shuttle capacity and established a system to address grievances, insisting that no events have been delayed. Thailand's team is now arranging alternative lodging and covering extra costs out of pocket.
