Thailand Extends Internal Security Measures in 19 Southern Districts for One Year
The Thai cabinet approved a one-year extension of the Internal Security Act in 19 districts across four southern provinces, running from Oct 1, 2026 to Sept 30, 2027.
Thailand’s Cabinet has voted to prolong internal security provisions in 19 districts of the four southern border provinces for a further year, effective from Oct 1, 2026 through Sept 30, 2027. The areas include three districts in Narathiwat, seven in Pattani, five in Yala and four in Songkhla, following the removal of Sungai Kolok district from the designation earlier in the year. Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana said the Internal Security Operations Command’s assessment found that while coordinated raids have hindered attackers, attempts to stir unrest and threats to vulnerable sites continue.
A recent survey indicated that 75.40 % of locals view the Act favorably, with 70.36 % opposing its revocation. The government plans to gradually replace the Emergency Decree with legal measures suited to the security climate and aims to scale back restrictions when conditions allow.
