Thailand Near Finalizing US Trade Pact, PM Says Deal Expected in November

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that the reciprocal trade agreement with the United States is in its final paragraph and anticipates signing during President Trump's upcoming Asia visit.

Speaking at a Singapore forum, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reported that the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between Thailand and the United States has reached its final paragraph, with the United States Trade Representative preparing the concluding clause. He said a letter from President Donald Trump received last one outlet confirmed the deal’s near-completion and urged Thai officials to finalize the wording. Anutin expects the pact to be signed during Trump’s next Asian trip in November, possibly in Manila or Shenzhen, where the president will attend ASEAN gatherings.

The United States is Thailand’s largest export market, representing roughly 24% of the country’s total shipments this year, despite a 12.5% tariff imposed by the US in July. Completion of the agreement could ease trade barriers and boost Thai exports, highlighting the strategic economic ties between the two nations.

Why it matters

The deal could significantly affect Thailand's export economy, which relies heavily on the US market.
