Thailand proposes flat 450-baht fee for all foreign tourists starting 2027

The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports has launched a public consultation, running until Sept 28, on a new tourism levy of 450 baht per foreign visitor, irrespective of entry mode. Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul explained that the flat fee aims to finance improvements to tourism infrastructure and safety standards, lessening the sector’s dependence on general state funding. The proposal, first suggested in 2019-2020 and revised in August, will be forwarded to the National Tourism Policy Committee for review after the consultation period.

Pending Cabinet approval and official publication in the Royal Gazette, collection is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2027. Thailand welcomed roughly 33 million international tourists last year, which could translate into an estimated 14.8 billion baht for a dedicated tourism fund. The government hopes the measure will support sustainable growth of the industry.
