Thailand's gig market sees rise of paid companionship services
Paid companionship gigs are expanding in Thailand as more people live alone and seek convenient partners for activities like travel and photography.
As Thailand's demographic profile changes, a niche gig sector offering hired companions is gaining traction. Euromonitor International reports that single-person households made up 29.5 % of Thai homes in 2025, spurring demand for services that cater to solo living. Students like Thanaporn Charoenchuea run "Snap Like a Bestie," providing photography and social support to over 50 clients in two months, while Penkawin Wangniwetkul, known as Ice, expands her offerings to activities such as gym sessions, shopping trips, and indoor rock climbing, charging roughly 1,000 baht per hour.
Clients, including university student Ainthuon Rattanawaraporn, appreciate the ability to request specific photo angles and avoid burdening friends. Providers emphasize client screening and limit engagements to public venues for safety, and sociologist Narupon Duangwises notes the need for clear boundaries to prevent harassment.
