Thieves smash display and flee with luxury watches worth 200 million yen in Tokyo
Two masked men broke a showcase at a Nakano Broadway shop and escaped with four high-value watches, police said.
Police reported that a rapid smash-and-grab took place at a watch shop inside the Nakano Broadway complex, a popular spot for anime and manga enthusiasts. Two individuals wearing black masks and trousers wielded a hammer to break a display case and grabbed four watches estimated at about 200 million yen. One suspect escaped on a rental electric scooter while the other ran away on foot.
The robbery occurred while the store was open, but none of the five employees inside were injured. An emergency call was placed around midday after a witness heard glass shatter and saw a man riding away on the scooter. Authorities have not yet apprehended the suspects.
