Thieves steal entire trophy cabinet from Scotland's Minto Golf Club
A break-in at Minto Golf Club near Hawick resulted in the theft of its whole collection of around 60 historic trophies.
Around 22:45 on Saturday, police were called to a burglary at the Minto Golf Club clubhouse near Hawick in the south of Scotland. Investigators found that the intruders had taken every trophy from the club’s display, a collection of roughly 60 silver pieces that represent almost 100 years of achievements and memories. A club spokesperson called the theft “absolutely heart-breaking,” noting the sentimental value of the items despite no longer being contested for.
The club appealed to other sporting organisations in the Scottish Borders to boost security to protect their own histories. Detective Bruce Dodds confirmed that several trophies of sentimental importance were stolen and urged anyone with leads to contact Police Scotland. The case remains under investigation.
