Thin ash from Taal’s brief eruption drifts over nearby Batangas towns

A short phreatomagmatic eruption at Taal Volcano on Thursday evening sent thin ash over several lakeshore communities.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that the eruption began around 6:06 p.m. and lasted five minutes. Ashfall is expected to reach the southwestern lakeshore towns of Agoncillo, Lemery, San Nicolas, Taal and nearby areas in Batangas. Authorities warned residents of possible minor disruptions from the ash.
