Third suspect charged in Cairns crash that killed 12-year-old boy

Police have charged a 22-year-old man for allegedly driving a stolen car that rolled off an embankment in Cairns, resulting in the death of a 12-year-old boy.

Authorities say Mhurrigan Burns, 22, is the final surviving occupant to face charges for the incident involving a stolen vehicle that left the road in Cairns. The crash claimed the life of a 12-year-old child. Two other occupants—a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man—have already been charged. All three cases are now pending before the Cairns Magistrates Court.

Why it matters

The charges highlight the legal response to a deadly crash involving a stolen car and raise public safety concerns.
