Three aid workers shot while delivering food in Highland Papua

Three agricultural aid staff were attacked in Highland Papua, leaving two dead and one critically wounded as they delivered food supplies.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., an armed criminal group ambushed a four-wheeled vehicle carrying agricultural aid workers in Muliama Subdistrict, Highland Papua. Lieutenant Colonel Ilham Datu Ramang of the 1702/Jayawijaya Military District Command reported that two of the three victims were killed and the remaining survivor was critically injured and evacuated to Wamena Regional General Hospital. The convoy, which also included eight people delivering pigs to local residents, was targeted after the assailants allegedly separated non-Indigenous members from the rest of the team.

Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, public relations chief of the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force, confirmed the shooting and said police are pursuing the unidentified attackers. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges for humanitarian operations in the region.
