Three arrested in joint police and watchdog raid on alleged insider-trading network

Three individuals were taken into custody after coordinated raids by senior police and the City watchdog targeted a suspected insider-dealing ring.

A large-scale operation involving the City watchdog and the National Crime Agency resulted in the arrest of three people suspected of running an insider-dealing network. Teams of more than 100 staff swept five residential properties in London and Manchester, confiscating upwards of 30 phones, computers and tablets. The detained individuals, whose identities were not released, were brought to police stations for interviews.

FCA executive director Steve Smart warned that insider trading undermines market fairness and pledged continued aggressive action. Chief regulator Nikhil Rathi told MPs the sweep was part of a "very major operation" targeting sophisticated criminal groups that profit from leaking confidential deal information. The regulator noted a recent spike in abnormal share movements during takeovers, suggesting possible information leaks.

Why it matters
