Three detained after alleged ballot-paper irregularities at Tangier school polling station
Three people were detained as authorities investigate suspected ballot-paper tampering at Al Quds School in Tangier during the legislative elections.
An investigation into possible election irregularities at Al Quds School in Tangier’s Casabarata district led police to detain three individuals after a bag containing ballot papers was discovered near the polling station. Prosecutors have launched a judicial inquiry, with one detainee kept in police custody and slated to appear before a court, while the other two continue to be questioned. Video footage showing election envelopes in a transparent box sparked national attention, prompting the Tangier Court of Appeal’s prosecutor general to order a review of the material.
The Authenticity and Modernity Party, whose candidates were allegedly favored by the papers, rejected the allegations as an orchestrated campaign, and its lead candidate Abdelatif Ghalbzouri filed a complaint for defamation rather than being summoned. The National Human Rights Council reported two incidents at the school and will submit its report to the Office of the Public Prosecutor. Authorities maintain that voting proceeded normally nationwide despite isolated cases such as this.
