Three found unconscious in Vaslui cellar, suspected carbon dioxide poisoning from fermenting wine
Three people were discovered unconscious in a cellar in Odaia Bogdana, Vaslui County, with authorities suspecting carbon-dioxide poisoning from wine fermentation.
On Sunday, rescue teams from the Vaslui Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and the County Ambulance Service arrived at a cellar in the village of Odaia Bogdana, Fălciu commune, after three residents were discovered unconscious. The victims included a 76-year-old man, a 72-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man; the two elders were in a profound coma, and the younger man experienced cardiac-respiratory arrest but was revived by the initial medical unit.
Officials suspect the incident resulted from carbon-dioxide intoxication generated by wine being boiled in containers within the cellar. Ambulances from Vaslui, Murgeni, Bârlad and an ISU unit from Huşi transported the patients to a hospital for continued treatment. Daniel Ungureanu, spokesperson for the County Ambulance Service, confirmed the situation and the ongoing medical care. The case underscores the hazards of improper wine-fermentation practices in residential settings.
