Three junior police officers added to list of suspects in gold convoy investigation
Three patrol officers have been named as suspects in the gold convoy case, joining former TEK chief Hajdu János and former constitutional office legal chief Szathmáry István.
According to the Central Prosecutor's Office, three X district police patrol officers are now suspected in the gold convoy affair, accused of drafting false police reports during the handling of seven Ukrainian detainees at the TEK building. Their alleged misconduct is linked to the same alleged document falsification charges faced by former TEK head Hajdu János and former constitutional office legal chief Szathmáry István. Hajdu was previously suspected of illegal detention, while Szathmáry István is accused of forging public documents.
All five individuals are currently defending themselves without bail. The case stems from a June operation that seized Ukrainian money carriers and their assets, prompting a broader probe into the actions of security agencies.
Why it matters
The expanding investigation highlights potential abuse of authority within Hungary's security services and raises questions about the legality of the gold convoy operation.
