Three killed and one injured in shooting at Istanbul's Sofcu Han market

A gunfight broke out in Istanbul's historic Fatih district, leaving three people dead and another wounded at the Sofcu Han shopping passage.

On Tuesday, a shooting erupted in the Fatih quarter of Istanbul, a popular tourist hub, inside the Sofcu Han shopping arcade close to the Grand Bazaar. Early statements from authorities cited two dead and two injured, but subsequent information revised the toll to three fatalities and one wounded person. Emergency services responded with a large contingent, and footage from the Turkish news agency DHA shows an injured victim being carried on a stretcher.

Police have taken a suspected shooter into custody and are probing the circumstances that led a disagreement between a shopkeeper and a shopper to turn lethal. The dispute reportedly started near a currency-exchange kiosk before firearms were used. The motive behind the escalation remains unclear.
