Three men arrested for large-scale gold fraud targeting senior citizens

Police detained three suspects, aged 28, 50 and 53, accused of running an illegal gold-buying operation that swindled numerous elderly victims.

Authorities arrested three men, ages 28, 50 and 53, on suspicion of operating an unlawful gold-trading business that defrauded many older people. The operation involved offering to buy gold from seniors, then either withholding payment, providing low-ball offers, or coercing victims into signing documents that transferred assets, such as a 145-million-forint property, to relatives. In one incident, a 71-year-old entered the shop with high-value gold, was given an unknown drink, and later left injured and without his jewelry.

Police searches recovered large quantities of gold and other items. The three suspects have been detained pending further legal action.
