Three new pumps deployed to irrigate drought-stricken farmland in Bekasi
The Public Works Ministry has activated three pumps to supply water to about 600 hectares of drought-hit farmland in Bekasi, after the minister questioned official water-availability reports.
Minister Dody Hanggodo instructed water-resource agencies to ensure irrigation supplies match actual field conditions, noting discrepancies in official reports. In response, the ministry began diverting water from the Kiwing Pump Station along three distribution lines to irrigate roughly 600 hectares of farmland in Bekasi. BBWS Citarum operates a 500-liter-per-second pump drawing from the Citarum River, while BBWS Cilicis contributes two pumps each delivering 80 lps.
Abdul Ghoni Majdi, acting head of BBWS Citarum, emphasized swift action to combat the dry season and announced a service and complaint post for residents to report water needs and infrastructure issues. Ongoing monitoring will guide further measures to support local agriculture.
