Three New West Nile Cases Confirmed in Northern Cyprus

The Turkish Cypriot health ministry announced that three people in the north have tested positive for West Nile virus. Two of the cases involve patients who presented with upper respiratory complaints, sore throat, fever and fatigue and were admitted to hospitals, where laboratory tests confirmed the infection. A third person, asymptomatic, was found to be infected during routine blood testing.

The ministry said the condition of the two hospitalized patients has improved since admission and neither is considered life-threatening. All three individuals are under close medical observation. This follows seven confirmed cases in the Republic of Cyprus, one of which resulted in death.
