Three rescued off Anglesey after attempting to swim to drifting vessel
Three people were saved near Benllech Beach on the North Wales coast after they struggled while trying to reach a drifting boat.
On September 6, three individuals found themselves in distress off Benllech Beach, Anglesey, after trying to swim to a vessel that had broken free of its anchor in strong offshore winds. The Moelfre RNLI crew responded with an all-weather lifeboat, and an HM Coastguard search-and-rescue helicopter arrived to assist. The helicopter located and lifted one person from further out at sea, while the lifeboat deployed a smaller boat to retrieve the other two swimmers.
After the rescues, the trio was transferred to Coastguard staff waiting on the beach. RNLI Coxswain Mike Hughes-Roberts warned that sea conditions can change rapidly and urged the public to respect the water, check weather forecasts, and carry a means of contact when near the coast.
