Tiffany warns that Hong could bring socialist policies to Wisconsin

Republican U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany, the front-runner for Wisconsin’s governor race, warned that a showdown with socialist state Representative Francesca Hong could determine whether the state serves as a “firewall” against socialism. Speaking with former Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin on one outlet, Tiffany suggested Wisconsin might halt far-left policies gaining traction in other primaries. Hong, affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, advocates for measures such as police defunding, prison abolition, public banking, universal childcare and a $20 minimum wage, along with a tax plan raising rates for high-income earners.

Tiffany and Youngkin portrayed those proposals as extreme, citing past social-media posts where Hong described police as upholding white supremacy and criticized institutions like the Senate. Hong responded that some of her earlier statements were “bad takes” and expressed frustration with the political establishment. Both candidates are set to appear on Tuesday’s primary ballot, with Tiffany facing Andrew Manske and Hong competing against three other Democrats.
