Tisza Party nominates five experts, including Transparency International's Ligeti Miklós, as constitutional judges

Prime Minister Magyar Péter disclosed that the Tisza Party has submitted five names for new Constitutional Court judges. The slate features Dr. Chronowski Nóra, a constitutional law scholar; Dr. Ligeti Miklós, a criminal law advocate and legal director of Transparency International Hungary; Dr. Kovács András György, a senior judge with a PhD in administrative law; Dr. Orosz Árpád Gábor, former head of the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court and professor of European law; and Dr. Szomora Zsolt, a habilitated criminology professor.

The party emphasized that the nominees meet the constitution’s requirements and possess the professional qualities of impartiality, integrity, independence and proven competence. The parliamentary committee will conduct hearings on Monday, followed by a secret ballot in the National Assembly on Tuesday to elect the new judges. The Constitutional Court’s age limit was recently restored, ending the terms of several long-serving judges.
