Titans defensive back Nazeeh Johnson has successful ankle surgery amid suspension

Nazeeh Johnson underwent ankle surgery that will keep him out for the duration of his six-game suspension, affecting the Titans' training camp plans.

During a quiet day at Tennessee Titans training camp, defensive back Nazeeh Johnson received ankle surgery that was reported as successful. The procedure will sideline him for the rest of camp and coincide with a league-mandated six-game suspension for a performance-enhancing substances violation, which begins on August 30 and ends on October 19. Johnson, 28, entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, spending his entire career there before signing with the Titans as a free agent in late July.

He made his Titans debut against the 49ers, posting five tackles, and had previously logged 66 tackles and one sack in 29 games. The player claimed the positive test might be linked to fertility medication and was unable to appeal. Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi now faces the challenge of managing the roster without a veteran cornerback while no official roster move has been announced.

Why it matters

The surgery and suspension remove a veteran defensive back from the Titans' roster during a crucial early-season period.
