Toddler allegedly tied, kicked and abused at Delhi private playschool

A three-and-a-half-year-old boy was reportedly bound to a chair, kicked and sexually assaulted at a private playschool in northeast Delhi, prompting a police case and an education department inquiry.

Authorities say a three-year-old boy attending a private playschool in Maujpur, northeast Delhi, was tied to a chair, kicked and sexually assaulted, as shown in CCTV recordings. The child's father noticed sleep disturbances and fear of using the toilet, prompting a medical exam that revealed swollen eardrums. When the family requested the school's surveillance footage, they were initially told the cameras were non-functional and later asked for a fee before receiving the video.

The footage allegedly captured the child being restrained, kicked off the chair, denied food and subjected to inappropriate touching. Police have registered a case invoking sections of the Pocso Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act, arresting a caretaker and suspending a teacher. The Directorate of Education is convening a committee, chaired by the additional director of education, to complete an inquiry within two days, while the school claims full cooperation with investigators.

Why it matters

The case highlights severe child abuse in an educational setting and triggers legal and regulatory action.
