Tokyo Gap-Financing Market Teams with Frontières to Showcase Horror and Thriller Projects
The Tokyo Gap-Financing Market has partnered with Frontières, adding a slate of horror and thriller titles to its 2026 lineup.
TIFFCOM announced that its seventh Tokyo Gap-Financing Market (TGFM) will collaborate with Frontières, the genre-focused co-production market run by Canada’s Fantasia International Film Festival. The combined program lists 24 feature projects from 24 countries, all of which have secured at least 60% of their budgets and must contain an Asian element. Frontières contributes five horror and thriller titles, such as Boo Junfeng’s “Trinity” and Kevin Rahardjo’s “The Land of Jinn,” as well as a body-horror film by Gabriela Amaral Almeida.
Animation is represented by five projects, including an omnibus horror work and a film about the Fukushima disaster. TGFM will host its first open pitch event on Oct. 28, where ten projects—including the Frontières selections—will present to financiers. The market is backed by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and Unijapan, and runs alongside the 2026 Tokyo International Film Festival.
Why it matters
The partnership expands financing opportunities for genre filmmakers and strengthens Japan-Canada co-production ties.
