The resignation comes days after lawyers for potential witnesses were warned of impending grand-jury subpoenas and after DiGenova’s team sought voluntary interviews with lawyers representing former FBI agents who investigated President Trump’s handling of classified documents. DiGenova was appointed to the position in April after the prior prosecutor, Maria Medetis Long, was removed amid concerns about the strength of the case.
Neither of the two investigations—one into alleged conspiracies to keep Trump out of office and another into a 2023 CIA testimony—has produced charges. DiGenova, who previously served as U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., also represented Trump’s campaign in its unsuccessful effort to overturn the 2020 election results.
