Top seeds Sabalenka and Zverev eliminated in Cincinnati Open upsets

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and German star Alexander Zverev were both knocked out of the Cincinnati Open on the same day, falling to lower-ranked opponents.

The Cincinnati Open saw two major surprises as top seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Alexander Zverev exited in the fourth round. Czech player Sara Bejlek, ranked 35th, rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the first-set tiebreak to claim the first set and then broke Sabalenka three times in the second, winning 7-6 (9/7), 6-4. Meanwhile, American Tommy Paul survived a match point and overcame Zverev 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-4, despite rain interruptions that halted play for over an hour.

The women's upset advances Madison Keys to the quarterfinals, while Paul will face Flavio Cobolli. Other notable results included Felix Auger-Aliassime’s loss to Frances Tiafoe and Coco Gauff’s straight-sets victory over Marie Bouzkova.

Why it matters

The defeats of two top-seeded players reshape the tournament field and highlight emerging talent.
