Tornado devastates Antalya construction site, killing four workers

A tornado ripped two on-site containers apart in Antalya’s Fevzi Çakmak district, killing four construction workers and injuring another.

On Monday night, a tornado hit a construction site in Antalya’s Fevzi Çakmak neighbourhood, destroying two containers that housed five workers. The storm’s force threw the occupants from the structures, killing two on the spot and later claiming two more lives in hospital; the remaining worker was treated and is reported to be in good condition. Authorities dispatched medical teams, police, firefighters and Disaster and Emergency Management Authority personnel to the area.

Governor Hulusi Şahin visited, confirming that a crane on the site had also collapsed but did not cause further injuries. He described the event as an unusual natural phenomenon, noting that no other tornado or storm reports had emerged elsewhere in the city and surrounding buildings were largely unharmed. The Turkish State Meteorological Service had earlier issued a yellow-code warning for heavy rain in Antalya. Drone footage later showed scattered construction materials and damage to a nearby kindergarten roof.
