Tornado Strikes Near Elkhorn, Manitoba, Prompting Damage Assessments

Environment and Climate Change Canada confirmed that a tornado made landfall near Elkhorn, Manitoba, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, following alerts from the RCMP and social-media posts. The storm caused significant destruction in Kola, just south of Elkhorn, where a farmer reported the loss of nearly all outbuildings while the house remained intact. Rainfall totals reached about 74 mm in Kola, 41 mm in St-Lazare and 37.8 mm at Duck Mountain Provincial Park.

A second confirmed tornado touched down near Maryfield, Saskatchewan, and a possible tornado was noted near Kelso, though evidence is still lacking. Officials are collaborating with the Northern Tornadoes Project for a preliminary assessment, and forecasters expect only isolated showers and non-severe thunderstorms to follow on Monday.
