Toronto and Hamilton region heads to polls for pivotal mayoral and council races
Voters in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area cast ballots Monday in municipal elections featuring high-profile mayoral contests in Toronto, Mississauga and other cities.
On Monday, voters throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area went to the polls to elect mayors, city councillors and school board trustees. The Toronto mayoral race pits incumbent Olivia Chow against former councillor Brad Bradford, each campaigning on issues such as grocery costs, transit, property-tax freezes and land-transfer tax cuts. Former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie, who stepped down to lead the Ontario Liberal Party and recently resigned as its leader, is attempting a comeback against incumbent mayor Carolyn Parrish.
Additional contests include Patrick Brown’s bid for a third term in Brampton, Steven Del Duca’s re-election campaign in Vaughan, and Andrea Horwath’s effort to secure a second term in Hamilton. Polling runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. locally, with results to be broadcast later in the evening.
