Toronto pastor Kofi Danso faces multiple sexual abuse and financial exploitation accusations

Pastor Kofi Danso of Miracle Arena in Vaughan is accused by more than a dozen former congregants of sexual misconduct and pressuring donations, which he denies.

Kofi Danso, senior pastor of Miracle Arena For All Nations Church in Vaughan, Ontario, is accused by over a dozen former attendees of sexual abuse, including grooming a 16-year-old who says he was forced onto his lap and assaulted repeatedly. Additional complainants describe a pattern of financial pressure, with volunteers asked to contribute thousands of dollars and work long hours without pay. Regional police have examined the sexual claims but closed the investigations without filing charges.

Danso, who describes himself as a “Man of God,” declined interview requests but issued a written denial through his attorney, asserting that terms like “papa” reflect Ghanaian cultural respect and that no allegations have been made in the church’s 15-year history. The church’s compound features a gated campus and offers services to many refugees and immigrants, while its leadership, including his wife JoAnne, maintains that donations are voluntary and managed by an accountant. Former minister Dagma Noelien, who left in 2018, said she received multiple reports of misconduct and urged women to contact police, but many feared retaliation.

Why it matters

The allegations raise concerns about abuse of authority in faith communities and the handling of sexual misconduct claims.
