TotalEnergies to cut diesel prices for motorists and non-road fuel
TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné said the company will lower diesel prices by 8 to 12 cents per litre for private drivers and by up to 20 cents for non-road diesel used by farmers and construction firms.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu recently disclosed that strategic fuel reserves would be drawn down, a move intended to ease market pressures. In response, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné announced that the firm will trim the price of diesel for private motorists by between 8 and 12 cents per litre. A more substantial reduction, up to 20 cents per litre, will apply to non-road diesel (GNR), which is commonly used by farmers, construction companies and fishermen.
Pouyanné also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintain a price cap of €2.25 per litre for consumers. Lecornu added that the released fuel was bought before the recent price spike and will be offered at cost, which mechanically lowers pump prices. He noted that while general tax cuts were discussed publicly, the government cannot repeat direct aid due to fiscal constraints.
Why it matters
Lower fuel prices can reduce operating costs for households, farmers and construction firms.
